Ended up getting a good deal on a used Mercury (made by Tohatsu) 5 hp two-stroke long shaft. It fits in the cutout pretty well so I've removed the scissor mount and put that on Craigslist. Ha! No, CornDog's engine doesn't drag in any conditions so moving it onto a lowering bracket won't gain me any speed. Tried that once, actually, and didn't like it at all. Messed up the boat's balance. Probably slowed me down. Actually, Larry paid me extra to make his boat. Jerry, On an earlier post I believe you advocated squaring off the trailing edge of the rudder. My Ida rudder comes to a pretty refined edge on the trailing border. Thank you for that link. It is timely because one of my winter projects for the new-to-me boat is fabricating a new rudder. It is made from two pieces of 3/4" meranti plywood epoxied together and I plan to cover it with 6 oz. fiberglass cloth and epoxy. In plan view, it mostly traces the original rudder's shape. Its underwater sections will approximate a NACA 0012 profile.
