I think your design is very efficient. You are not using up cockpit space, and the fuel is right where you will need it. Use a funnel and you should be good! Another idea is to use one of those rubber bulbs that slowly pumps gas into the engine. That way, you wouldn't need to move the can or spill while you are pitching around? Just a thought. That’s going to make reboarding in an emergency difficult to impossible. I prefer the inline bulb to pump fuel in while underway. www.rustyknorr.weebly.com

Honda 2/2.3 at about 1/2 throttle (more than enough for a M15, Sage 15, SageCat, and Sage 17), burn about a little under a liter and hour (aka one tank of fuel). My practice is to refill the tank every 45-50 minutes so the motor will restart on a single pull (if you run dry multiple pulls needed to get fuel into carb). I recommend using a 'No-Spill' brand gas can. For day sailing I had a 1-gallon that was easy to lift and fill motor. For cruising had an additional 2.5gallon can. Would transfer fuel from 2.5 to 1 gallon can for easy filling the motor. Info on 'No-Spill' - https://nospill.com/ The 3.5 gallons in cans and a full motor tank gives 15+ hours of range. :: Dave Scobie :: M6'8" #650 :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: former owner SV SWALLOW - sailboatswallow.wordpress.com/ :: former owner M17 #375 SWEET PEA - m17-375.com :: former owner M15 #288 SCRED - m15namedscred.wordpress.com On Mon, Jun 19, 2023, 09:59 Jim Sadler <jimsadler@jascopacific.com> wrote:

Thanks Dave So 5 gal/.264 = 18.5 hrs x 3 = 57 miles give or take. At 3 knots. My 2.3 Honda at about half throttle on my M15 gives me 4.3 kts in flat water. The engine will run at this power level for 2 hours and 20 minutes and burn 1.1 liters of fuel. Going to WOT my speed approaches 5 kts but the fuel consumption and noise level increase significantly. I rarely run at WOT. I normally refuel when the engine tone changes as the fuel tank nears empty. If I am heading into a situation where running out of fuel could create a problem, I refuel before things become potentially difficult. Restarts are one pull if you do not run the tank dry. If you run the tank dry, restarts will take multiple pulls. On month long cruises, I will carry 88 hours of ethanol free gasoline. Ethanol free is frequently not available at the marinas and by carry this much fuel, I eliminate most of the worries of running out of fuel. I also have a Honda 2 and the performance is nearly the same. For comparison, my M17 does 3.8-4.0 knots in calm water at half throttle of a Honda 2.3 HP. I haven't ever measured run time for a full tank, as I rarely motor and so far just on large inland lakes, where at most it's to get back to the slip if the wind dies, or in the morning calm after an overnight. I did motor one time for about 45 minutes-plus, maybe almost an hour, at varying speed mostly 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, without using a full tank. Didn't measure how much it took to fill though. cheers, John On 6/19/23 12:34, msminchome--- via montgomery_boats wrote:

Capt Rusty Based on your observation I will relocate the external tank to the starboard side of the stern rail. I am so happy I built a PVC mockup before fabricating the SS tubing .
