I have just acquired a 1983 Montgomery 15. Boat is in fine condition with one exception - the centerboard is not installed and there appears to be no way to do so !!! I tried to attach a picture but sig won't take so here is a short description of centerboard: 32" long 17.5" at widest point weighs 33 lbs exactly There is a hole in the board for the pennant line but no hole for the pivot !! It appears to be glassed over (quite professionally!) There is also no hole in the centerboard trunk to hold a pin and no hole for a stop pin either! (Guy just couldn't stop glassing!) So here's the problem - the holes must be re-drilled -- but where??? Seems like some precise measurements are needed for both centerboard and trunk holes. Also what size bolt/pin ?? What size line is used for the pennant? Looks like 1/4 to 5/16 from the pennant hole(s). Also I have heard about a stop pin. Necessary? function? Any help muchly appreciated Cheers Bud Holzschuh __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com
Bud Don't know what part of the country you reside in, but,,,,,,,,,you could mail the c/b to Bob Eeg and have him re-do it..........maybe you could sound out ( tap, tap ) the keel for the location of the pivot hole.......consider the fact that the c/b fits flush with the keel when retracted.......Hold it up to the keel for an idea where to start looking. I don't have a cb to look at, but by memory the 3/8 hole is centered in the radius, obviously at the upper forward corner. If it isn't exact and binds a little, you can always drill the hole out to, say, 1/2, or even redrill it and plug the wrong one up with epoxy. I say go for it! Bud, It actually sounds like the pin may still be in the keel. It is possible that the old board broke at the radius. When the previous owner recieved the new board he was stymied so he sold it to you. Raise the front of the trailer so you can look up in there to see if the pin is still there. If not then probe for the pin hole from inside the Keel to get a precise location before you start shredding gelcoat. Thanks, Doug M15 #310 "Seas the Day" --- Bud Holzschuh <schuh8@yahoo.com> wrote:
