I am intending to go with the SoCal Potters on one of their trips to Catalina, and also to tour the San Juans - all in my M15, "Prelude". Is a 4HP 4-stroke a good choice @ 59 lbs, or would a 3.5HP @ 43lbs be better? Right now I have a 2.5 HP 2-stroke, but that is progressively being banned everywhere. Thanks! Bill Hinkel M15 "Prelude"
I have the 4 cycle 2HP Honda on my M15. It is plenty of power and a dream piece of engineering! Jeff On Sun, Mar 11, 2012 at 3:01 PM, <whinkeljr@cox.net> wrote:

Does the 2.5 merc support an external fuel tank and do they offer a long shaft option? Thanks Doug? On Sun, Mar 11, 2012 at 4:13 PM, August Trometer <atrometer@gmail.com>wrote:

Mine is long shaft 2 cycle w/internal tank. I like many others have a 3 G remote tank, hose, and valve on the end to fill easily. August, Can you point me to more info on the squeeze bulb fuel fill system you have on your Honda 2HP? I have the same outboard and want to do the remote tank/tube/bulb fill mod. Thanks, Jeff On Mar 11, 2012 9:51 PM, "August Trometer" <atrometer@gmail.com> wrote:

I just went to Ace Hdwr and got a small valve and fittings, cut the end of the hose off(where it would hook to engine, cut off another 6-8" piece, put in the fittings and valve, added the 6" hose. DONE use the standard tank and hose. Doug, I have the 3.5hp Merc. long shaft and it does not have an external tank option. I've looked into it, but Merc. doesn't install the necessary pump to pull the gas from an external tank until you go up to a 4hp or larger engine. I know some have installed a valve to the internal tank so that they can use a bulb to pump gas into the tank from an external tank. But that's the closest thing I've heard of that comes close to a small 2hp having an external tank option. bill: many P15s and M15s have made the crossing to catalina is. i have toured puget sound, the san juan islands and the gulf islands using a honda 2HP long shaft on an M15 and Sage 17. unless your current motor is failing, or cannot be used at your local sailing/cruising location(s), continue to use the motor. a 2HP long shaft motor is an excellent fit for the M15. i had not problems with my honda 2HP on my M15. about the only improvement for the honda 2HP would be an external tank option. a 4HP motor is significant overkill and adds un-needed weight on the transom of the M15. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: Sage Marine --- On Sun, 3/11/12, whinkeljr@cox.net <whinkeljr@cox.net> wrote:
