Does anybody know what hull number started with lead instead of steel ballast for the M_15? Daniel
Hi Daniel, It was right around hull number 400 or so and in roughly 1988. The M15 went lead just a few months before the M17. Our 1988 M15 #407 was lead and our 1988 M17 #410 is steel. Both built in early 1988. Randy G. On Tue, Aug 31, 2010 at 8:22 PM, Daniel Rich <danielgrich@gmail.com> wrote:

Hey Bob! How much would you charge to saw off the old keel and rebuild it with a lead filled keel? Do you think it would improve the performance by stiffening it up a bit? If nothing else would it help with the sticking centerboard issue I have every few years? Ian

Hi Ian We do a lot of repair work on these older Montgomery's. What model do you have? Yes, the lead is much more dense and the weight would be lower. I just bought 7,000 pounds of lead so we won't be running out anytime soon..hahah. We don't 'Saw off' anything. We go in sideways (like Sean did on his infected M_23). It's a messy job that's for sure. But we can do it. Call me to discuss. Fair winds Bob (949) 489-8227
