Loctite Blue on the boom
Hi Gang, I'm wrapping up the installation of reefing hardware on Spirit's boom. If I hit the #10-24 machine screws with some blue Loctite am I going to be sorry when I need to remove a fitting a few years from now? And just for info: I was concerned that #10-24 machine screws wouldn't have enough bite in the thin walls of the Dwyer DM-2 boom so rivets might be better. I checked with Dwyer, who said that either fastener will hold well. Jim Poulakis M-17 "Spirit"
Hello, I used rivets to mount my reefing hardware, but on my boomkicker mount I made a backing block mount from some scrap aluminum, drilled and tapped. I shared your concerns with regard to holding power. But if a screw strips out, you can always go to a rivet and rivets are pretty easy to drill out and replace. My two cents :) Fair Winds Mark E M17 F/D #103 AMY ----- Original Message ---- From: James Poulakis <picfo@comcast.net> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 2:47:33 PM Subject: M_Boats: Loctite Blue on the boom Hi Gang, I'm wrapping up the installation of reefing hardware on Spirit's boom. I sure hope the #10-24's hold, cause that's what I used as well. I also used Locktite. I've used it many times and was able to take things apart. It's just a little tougher.
