What a sad day! Joe was a true gentlemen and one of the most helpful and kind people I've ever met. I had talked to Joe many times on the phone and Montgomery Boats had a new M_17 on display during Pacific Sail Expo in April 2001.(up in Oakland, California) During the 5 days of the boatshow many people had dropped by, including Joe Kidd. He walked up and introduced himself, I stood up and he gave me a hug. We talked like old friends, his enthusiastic spirit for sailing and enjoying life in general was infectious. People gathered around as he told sailing adventures about his Montgomery 15. This man had stage presence; he made everyone feel like an old friend. He sat with me for a couple of hours, talking, laughing, admiring the new 17 and explaining to interested people just how superior the Montgomery sailboats are. *smile* When he smiled his entire face would light up. This man was very happy and had a love of life. We shook hands and parted company and talked about seeing each other at the next show..... Goodbye Joe and Fair winds....you will be missed!
