Has anyone taken the steps to fix the spreaders to the mast as opposed to the hinged brackets supplied from the factory (1977 vintage)? Is this a good or bad idea? If good, what is a good source for the hardware? Steve Shenkel M17 Arizona
Steve- I think Forespar still makes the 1" cast spreader sockets. Ther are better in that they tend to keep the mast in column; not better because the uppers need to be backed off before raising or lowering the mast. Thanks for the reply. I never considered the issue regarding stepping the mast as I have always had boats with swept back spreaders. As I will keep the boat in dry storage with the mast up, I may consider the bracket.
