After several unsuccessful bids on E-bay for a teak platform, I finally won a bid on a new polyethylene platform with a single step (starboard like material). I deliberated a long time as to whether I would want to put a big piece of plastic (in lieu of teak) on the transom, but price and ease of maintenance finally won out. I hope this does not revoke my subscriptions to "Small Craft Advisor" and "Good Old Boat". The mounting angle, stainless steel hinge, suspension cables, and backing plates were fabricated parts. The folding swim platform may not be for everyone, but I have found that having a "back porch" makes it a lot easier to board a dingy or kayak, as well as facilitate working on the rudder or outboard. The folding function keeps it up against the transom out of the way, when not in use.
