I traveled 1,620 miles to retrieve my '84 M17 . . . It had been surveyed (at my expense), but I paid substantially more than the surveyor said the boat was worth: I had been looking for an M17 for months, and the surveyor pegged his estimate to what he found on the MSOG site in one evening. I could only secure the loan on the amount the [in this case] uninformed said it was worth, and, having no cash at the time, borrowed the difference at a higher unsecured rate. I paid less than what the Oregon M15 owner is asking, but not significantly less: And his boat is a '91, and as Scott said, "The '91 has the lead ballast and several other improvements." So I paid insignificantly less for a 7-years-older boat that had the problematic steel-shot ballast, rather than the lead. The boat I bought needed some new hardware and a lot of cosmetic work. Looking at Nor'Sea's website, it looks as if the difference in cost between a new Monty 15' with trailer and a new Monty 17' with trailer is about $5,700.00 so I know I'm comparing apples and oranges. But what I'm trying to suggest is that Scott might be onto something: " . . . the price [of the M15 in Oregon] seems quite reasonable if it is as advertised." Another survey and you'll have spent $5,600.00 on the 10-years-older Kansas M15 if the asking price is firm. The survey came out good. I was sent a written report, the cost was $300. I am stuck here in Sacramento so I thought it might be worth a shot. The only thing that was noted was a dry tire on the trailer and a few minor things that were not safety issues.
