alt downhauls for jib. Re: Heavy weather tactics
Hi All THe downhaul on my Potter 15 worked as an throttle - up for speed, down for control. Since going forward on the Potter tends to sink the bow, at first I used an elaborate system to down and then bundled the jib. http://www.widgetsailor.com/myboat/downhaul/jline.html but with such a small jib it seemed unnecessary and added to the rigging time as well as tending to snag. Simpler works with a line run the the jib hanks. For my boat alternating hanks was smoother than using each. I agree on the larger line. I used 3/16 as in the next article. http://www.practical-sailor.com/marine/jibdownhaul.pdf Neither of these eliminates a need for easy reefing of the main sheet to hold the boats balance with respect to wind direction. Suggestions for small boat reefing abound on the web. Happy Sailing, Cliff in PA On Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 8:42 PM, <eisenee@aol.com> wrote:
Try a 1/4 in. line on your jib downhaul. You have to use one you can wrap your fingers around and its a lot less likely to get snagged. Eldor M17 Motu iti _______________________________________________ http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/montgomery_boats
