RE: M_Boats: Resealing tiller & Rudder & Outboard questions
Tod: I am about to start on my rudder. What epoxy did you use, how many coats and what varnish?. I have West marine two part epoxy since I am over drilling and back filling all the holes on the deck. Can I use this on the rudder? All details/tips would be highly welcomed. Thanks. My boat is dry-sailed. Not sure what the 7.5 weighs, but a former owner of BuscaBrisas who sailed her from Port Angeles, WA to Bella Coola, BC and back started out with a Honda 5 with no alternator and then traded outboards with someone he met along the way. The outboard he traded for was a Honda 8 with an alternator (Rod wanted the alternator for battery charging). After I came to own her (buying her without an outboard), Rod mentioned that the 8 hp was noticably too heavy for the boat. Maybe you can compare the weight of the 7.5 to the 8 (79# dry for longshaft) and the 5 (61# dry for longshaft). Hope this helps, Tod Mills M17 #408 "BuscaBrisas" ----------
Hello everyone,
I am going strip & reseal my tiller & rudder this winter, but I don't know what sealer to use. My local marine shop only had a paint that would tolerate being submersed. They did not think polyurethane was appropriate. Has anyone done this before & have any suggestions.
Also, am considering buying a used 1992 Honda 7.5 hp motor for my M17. Does anyone have any experience with this motor. What is it worth on the used market, and is it too big for the boat.
Thanks in advance,
Jim Easton
