Jeff: what you describe is standard M15 setup as designed and built by jerry.
scupper (lanyard hole) is covered by a piece of varnished teak which must be bonded somehow to the cockpit sole.
if memory serves the wood bedded and thru-bolted into place . there are teak plugs covering the fastener heads ... Jerry may comment when he sees this posting. the drain works great and will get water out of the cockpit. i never got pooped or knocked down in my M15, but i know people that have and the boat _will_ right herself and will drain the water. remember - as the wind comes up put in the drop-in companionway boards to limit water entry into the cabin. also, if your cockpit lockers are open to the cabin (some are, some are not) make sure you latch these closed as the wind speed increases. see pictures here of M15 taking water into cockpit - http://youtu.be/sO4vrWxDnRI i have no feedback on the 'strainer' system. i never used one on my M15 and never jammed the board due to 'dirt, sand or other items' in the cockpit. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.com --- On Tue, 3/6/12, Jeffrey Johnston <frjeff@gmail.com> wrote:

Has this piece of teak been added by a PO perhaps (not OEM)? And, is the hole beneath it significantly larger to fit the stainless "strainers" ?
