I know this must have been covered before but I'm a newbie. I'm planning on getting a 15 monty and I have a 8 hp Yamaha 2 stroke , would this be over kill for a 15ft . Or could I use it as my permanent motor . Cause I really like the motor and it weights about the same as most 4hp 4 strokes Thanks for any feed back Klaas
Klass: you are talking about WAY to much HP and weight. the bigger issue is the weight. the M15 is very sensitive to weight distribution. 4HP is WAY overkill for the M15. the honda long-sharft 4-stroke 2HP engine is perfect. weights 28 pounds. the only negative about the honda is the lack of an external fuel tank. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 - SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.com --- On Thu, 9/15/11, Klaas <santaklaas@telus.net> wrote:

I would agree on the 20 inch Honda 2. I started out with a 50# Min-Kota trolling motor and on windy days, it wasn't enough. Bought the Honda 2 and found it, Just Right! It's downright peppy compared to the trolling motor and no 70# battery. The boat is much livelier without that extra 70 pounds in the bilge. I would agree also that with an adjustable motor mount a 15 inch shaft would probably be fine. I have the fixed mount and the 20 inch shaft is more appropriate for that.
