Hi, Wondering about safe line and block size for main sheet on my M-17. What I have at 3/4" and blocks to match seem large. Please advise. Thanks, Doug "Proteus" #208

Hi, Doug You are correct, 3/4" is large. 3/8" would be my first choice. Smaller would still be plenty strong enough but would be hard on the hands. Smallest I'd even consider would be 5/16". Tod (who has worn out pull-cords on Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engines and won't own another)
Hello Douglas, On our M17 the main sheet is 1/2 inch which is quite comfortable to handle. Ron Goodspeed
Are you buying all nerw blocks and line or trying to match new line to existing 3/4" blocks ? I use 3/8" halyards, it's stronger than needed but easier to hold than smaller line, & a pretty good compromise on the cost/comfort relationship. My recommendation would be 5/16" or 3/8" line.
