I run an off-leash dog park and also dogsit. My brother's Jack Russell has always been a handful for them, even now, when he is nearly ten. He barks too much and is just plain hyper. Three weeks with me while they were off to Ecuador and he was like a different dog altogether. Lots of exercise first thing!
