I have a 2hp Evenrude "Mate" in the garage. I have had it on 14ft fishing boats, but never on my M17. I has no transmission or neutral, you spin the head to go in reverse. This could make for some anxious moments in a crowded marina. I use a 2001 Yamaha 4 stroke 4hp on the M17, which has been a delightful motor. I was told they are no longer available. Years ago borrowed an antique Johnson 3 hp shortshaft twin from a fishing buddy to test on the M17. It was his dads. It was one of the red ones with a canvas carrying case. A bit on the dirty, smoky side, but I got lots of compliments on the cool, old outboard. After 45 years of outboards, our most memorable is the British Seagull. Maybe you could find a good one.... ...the advantage of them is that the gas/oil mix is so rich (12 to 1?) that if you get into rough weather all the oil on the water will certainly take the ten foot breakers down to a dead calm. Plus, if you get lost at sea, the rescue team can find you by following the oil slick. Or, perhaps you could just light it, and follow the trail back to home port. And, if you ever had a crew member that needed a good flogging, you could just wait until they were behind you in the cockpit, give a hard pull, and let that starter rope get them. "Oh! Sorry! I didn't see you...". Honestly, I am sad I let a friend talk me out of it. Started first pull when I did everything right. --Burt On Sat, Aug 12, 2017 at 9:16 AM, bownez@juno.com <bownez@juno.com> wrote:

Well, Burton, sounds like your old BS was worth its weight in empty oil cans! On Sat, Aug 12, 2017 at 8:33 AM, Burton Lowry <burtonlowry7@gmail.com> wrote:
