What year did the Monty 15 start getting lead in her keel and centerboard rather than steel/iron? -Alec
I saw an M17 towed behind a rental moving van (box-truck), northbound on I-5 between Corning and Red Bluff, mid-afternoon yesterday...is that anyone on this list by chance? Just curious where it's heading in case it's anywhere close to me in southern Oregon. cheers, John S. -- John Schinnerer - M.A., Whole Systems Design -------------------------------------------- - Eco-Living - Whole Systems Design Services People - Place - Learning - Integration john@eco-living.net - 510.982.1334 http://eco-living.net http://sociocracyconsulting.com
John, Considering that I-5 continues North through Oregon and Washington to the Canadian border, then changes to a Canadian number (metric maybe?) on to Vancouver BC, there are several places to which the M-17 could be bound: Fern Ridge Resevoir near Eugene, Oregon, on to the Columbia and Willamete Rivers at Portland, where it might have turned East on I-84 to any of many lakes in Eastern Washington or North Idaho or beyond, or if it stayed on I-5 maybe Vancouver Lake near Vancouver, Washington or on to Puget Sound, or Lake Union or Lake Washington in Seattle. Will be curious to read if the owner replies on M-boats after reaching the destination. The M15 went to lead around 1987 (or so). Look under the forward v-betth hatch as a 'quick check' as the steel ballasted boats have a 'hump' in this location (just forward of the porta-potti' bulkhead). Best to check the centerboard as it has been reported some boats have lead in keel and the board is filled with steel (and vica versa). My M15 had steel and was fine. Don't write off a boat until you confirm the keel's and center board's conditions. :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA :: Former M15 owner On Nov 16, 2014 1:21 PM, "Alec McCandless" <alecmccandless@gmail.com> wrote:

to follow up on the 'visual checks' to see if an M15 is steel or lead ballasted. attached is a picture of the 'steel hump' under the forward part of the v-berth. -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Sun, Nov 16, 2014 at 1:54 PM, Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:
