Re: M_Boats: Centerboard treatment
Good afternoon. Thanks for the tips. I had tried to run a small cable up and over the top but it got hung up. I will try a saw blade. I don't know for sure its crud up there or barnicles, etc. We hope to free it without having to haul to a boat repair shop and pay to use the hoist. Where to you sail? What type of boat? Tom
Tom, I have successfully careened my M15 on the beach to get at the centerboard when the water is too cold for swimming. It takes some planning to get through the process and is much more practical if you have a helper. 1 - anchor the boat fore and aft in shallow water but not aground. - make sure the for and aft line of the boat is perpendicular to the direction you want the mast to go. 2 - put some padding on the side you will roll the boat on as it may ground. 3 - tie a line to the main halyard and pull the boat over - tie it down or have someone hold it down. 4 - Inspect/ wrestle the CB down. The CB can jamb in the CB trunk due to a sideway pressure while on the trailer. Normally you can patiently wiggle it free - a rubber hammer is useful. thanks Doug Kelch M15 #310 --- thauser@att.net wrote:
