Neither the pins or holes are tapered, but pins often get a little peened at the end from driving them in so they should always go in and out on the same side- the starboard side. Traditional on boats and old guns. M15 #310 - previous owner had removed the pin from the port side. The pin in my boat is not tapered but is not original equiptment. When inserting the pin there was no indication that the hole was tapered.
