M15 Asymmetrical spinnaker
Hi all, I am thinking about putting an asymmetrical spinnaker on my M15 for sailing off of the wind. Has anyone done this? If so, how well does it work? Thanks all, Rob Hicks
Hi Rob, I have a genaker that came with my M-17 and it works just fine when I get up the energy to put it up. Ian

I use a sym on my 17 and it pulls as hard as it would on any other boat. Great on light air days if I am by myself, or, if I have a helmsman other than Auto I carry will carry that sail up to about 6-8knots of pressure. Seems to work best from dead downhill up to a broad reach. That's where I think an asym would be the dogs bollox. More range of use and easier to set/ handle. Auto does a good job in a directionally steady breeze but when the wind kicks up a bit I will douse the thing because it stops being fun and the real work starts. I rarely race so sailing is only EVER about having fun. I have decided that when the funds present themselves, a modern asym will be added to the inventory. I could see one of these puppies being very handy a large amount of the time. Much more handy in several ways than my Gollywobbler. Though next sail purchased will be a heavier storm jib and a new stock jib.....then a new 155 and THEN the assy. I always have a plan. ~:0) Cheers, Tim M17 Puff Kelowna BC --Original Message----- From: montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:montgomery_boats-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Ian Black Sent: Monday, March 10, 2008 8:53 AM To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Subject: Re: M_Boats: M15 Asymmetrical spinnaker Hi Rob, I have a genaker that came with my M-17 and it works just fine when I get up the energy to put it up. Hi Gary, My gennaker came with the boat when I bought it. It's basically a huge light air genoa, very colorful, and lightweight. The tack attaches at the bow, the head at the top of the mast by the jib halyard. There are no jib hanks on it. From there you can just wing it out with a spinnaker pole. It's quite pretty when it's up and useful in light air. It was made by Waagmeester Sails out of Portland, Oregon. They have it labeled as a cruisaker on the bag, but I've dubbed it my gennaker since I have never heard of a cruisaker. My best guess is that it's about 120 sq ft in area. Regards, Ian

Hi Gary, Sounds like the light weight, light air Drifter that Tom has for his M17 darma bum. Bill On 3/11/08, Gary M Hyde <gmhyde1@mac.com> wrote:
