Hello all, Just wanted to weigh in on the sail debate. I have to agree with Jim P. about the sails, although I just got a used 130 from a M 17 owner who upgraded to roller furling and I have to say that it has allowed me to do some winter sailing on the San Francisco bay that I would have otherwise decided against because of relatively light winds. I will probably only be able to use it in the late fall thru winter here in SF, but I'm glad I have it. I would get one with a window in it or have one put in though. My one reservation on a 130 is that it creates a big blind spot that I can't get comfortable with. I like to relax on reaches and never feel like I know what's on the other side the sail. On Kayaks, my wife Wendy and I bought tracking inflatables from a company called advanced elements. They are really high quality, fast, and track well. They have military spec valves, a waterproof nylon covering and come in single and tandem sizes. They are a bit pricey, but worth it if you like to explore. They also have a few budget lines and I believe West Marine sells a couple of them under their name. When I was looking to buy a kayak I went out to their development factory in Concord, CA and was impressed with what they were doing and have been happy with the purchase. Check them out here: http://www.advancedelements.com/kayaks.html. Can't wait for warmer weather, although some of the winter sailing has been fun. Michael Ray Molly M M17 #383 SF Bay
Thanks to Michael, Jim, Eldor, and Larry for their comments on sail inventories. This discussion was most helpful. It is a bit expensive to buy every kind of sail and sort them out by trial and error. Tom Jenkins M17 Scintilla
