Re: M_Boats: Yamaha 2.5HP on M15 w/fixed mount?
Hello David, I've owned both and used both on the M15. 1. Honda 2- l/s I found it a bit "too long" while hanging on the fixed mount. From what I remember it wouldn't lock back as the motor would hit the stern. I ended up installing an adjustable motor bracket. It worked out great after that. I liked being able to raise the motor in shallow water. I sold the motor and boat. 2. Yamaha 2.5 This is our current motor and I use it on the stock mount. It works pretty well but the motor won't tilt and lock up, very much liek the Honda. I made a wood rod to that holds it up when needed. I'll probably install another lifting bracket to accomodate shallow water and rigging the boat. You don't want to back down a ramp and have your motor drag on the ramp! Performance wise I'm happy with the 2.5. I used it on a cruise a couple of weeks ago and we ended up motoring about 7 hours due to lack of wind. We covered approx. 29 nm according to my GPS . The motor used 1.5 gal. of fuel. The real neutral is a nice feature. This motor starts up usually first pull. It's nice to have at least two good choices on these small 4 strokes. It seems you couldn't go wrong with either. Randy W. M15 Becca Anne

electric troller on my M15. It has the fixed engine mount and I'm therefore leaning toward the long-shaft Honda, since Yamaha doesn't offer the 2.5 with a long shaft. Is there anyone with a fixed mount on their M15 who has experience with the Yamaha? Is there a cavitation problem in chop or when going forward to raise and lower sails? I've searched the archives, but can't find any info about that. Any ideas? David =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= David W.
