The M 15 is stuffy and hot. Have any of your owners ventilated yours so sleeping there is really possible? If so what did you use to do the job? Any secrets to doing the job? Any brand names of equipment to share? And would you recommend doing it? Phil
phil (and others): some folks have installed 'solar vents'. i've never seen in person installed on an M15 (only pictures). i have seen on P15s ... the owners were 'non commital' that it improved the 'air' in the cabin. see this for 'sale page' of an M15 with one installed - http://bellingham.craigslist.org/boa/678505894.html when i purchased SCRED i was nervous about there being no 'vents' in the M15 cabin. as i have only sailed SCRED on puget sound i've never found the cabin 'hot' or 'stuffy'. must be that 52-degree heat sink that is the sound ;-) dave scobie M15 #288 - SCRED visit Scred's www-page: http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred --- On Thu, 6/26/08, Phil & Frances <srelt@iclub.org> wrote: From: Phil & Frances <srelt@iclub.org> Subject: M_Boats: Ventilation To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Date: Thursday, June 26, 2008, 7:09 PM The M 15 is stuffy and hot. I read something recently that suggested installing a round access port in the side of the cockpit foot wall that would allow fress air into the quarter berth. Has anyone tried this yet. I also read where you can put in screens. I can't remember the name of the ports. I suggest making a new upper hatch board out of 3/8" plywood and putting a screen in it. Make a screen for your forward hatch using a fabric screening and velcro. A cheap and relatively easy fix if you own a sabre saw and scissors. A late response to the thread on ventilation: I just set up a boom tent over the cabin entrance and keep the leave the hatchboards out and the hatch cover open too, if necessary.
