Winter Cruise, Anyone?
I wandered out for an overnight aboard Chimpanzee yesterday. There wasn't a boat to be seen in Eastern Bay today and I wonder if I'm the only nutter who overnights in the Maryland winter. The Montgomeries being as dry as they are, they seem like pretty good frostbiters. You'll want good foul weather gear and some neoprene gloves from a kayak store. Otherwise, the only worry is heavy condensation below, something I solved in the M-15 with a headliner velcro'ed-in-place . (John Tyner: the peel-and-stick velcro didn't stay stuck after a few months, which is why it's no longer there.) Anyway, it was perfectly pleasant aboard the Folkboat; 50's during the day, 15kts of wind. I had about four layers on. It was in the 20's overnight. I put a small flowerpot upside down over one of the Origo stove burners---something I read about on the internet---and that kept the cabin in the fifties, even with two hatches cracked for ventilation. A propos of nothing: there have been so many requests for Folkboat photos that I've put some snapshots of the project in a Yahoo photo album: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/clcboats/album?.dir=/ba4e&.src=ph& .tok=phWPPKCB6MJVFPoH Cheers, John
Hi John, I wanted to see the photos, but couldn't access them, even after I signed in to Yahoo! I also noticed that - in my inbox at least - the URL was broken up by a "return." So I copied and pasted the whole thing into my browser window but still had no luck. It might just be me... --- Rachel On Dec 4, 2004, at 7:11 PM, JazzYachts@aol.com wrote:

Worked fine when I copied and pasted it to my I-Explorer address window, and I didn't have to sign up with Yahoo . . . It's important to have the whole schmiel pasted to the address window, including the line .tok=phWPPKCB6MJVFPoH Cool pics, John . . . I usually do my last overnight in the M15 about the first week in December to catch the last of the waterfowl migration. Sooo you are not the only one up till Dec 5th anyway. After that I take my on the water fun rowing my Bolger light dory on the local creeks until the ice forms.

Hmmm, the ceiling frost is one of the reasons I don't like to overnight when it gets down in the 20's. When it thaws in the ealy morning sun it invariably drips in my face :(. Was your head liner a piece of cloth? I could try it using the throw away double sided carpet tape. Love the pictures John! I hope to see the real thing next year. John: Did you leave your Origo burning all night? I was wondering if carbon monoxide is a problem with an alcohol stove. --Gary Hyde N24 'Sailabration' M15 #235 'Vanilla' On Dec 04, 2004, at 4:11 PM, JazzYachts@aol.com wrote:
