Re: M_Boats: preventing the slugs from falling out of the slot when you drop the main
ALWAYS buy two. if you have one you WILL drop it overboard. if you have two Neptune will likely never ask for a donation ;-) dave scobie M17 #375 - sweet pea (http://www.m17-375.webs.com) M15 #288 - SCRED (for sale, http://www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred) --- On Tue, 5/5/09, flickasf@aol.com <flickasf@aol.com> wrote: I have slugs on the main and use a sail track stop. ?One manufacturer is Davis. ?Buy one with the flat side. ?Actually, buy two in the event that one falls over board. Hi Dave, You are so right. Have you ever noted with what fiendish cleverness the sail track stop will hit the deck at just the right speed and just the right angle so that it goes sailing off into the air, to make a lovely splash... as you stand there.... open mouthed. My answer was to use a bungee cord wrapped twice around the mast and tied in a square knot. Bungee cord is (or should be) always on board. It is noiseless; ... it hasn't been taught to jump off the cabin top or deck into the water; ...and it costs less than a sail stop; and it works just as well, if not better than store bought sail stops.
