The M15 cockpit drain empties into the centerboard trunk. A gasket might slow the drain or stop it as well as trapping any grit or debris next to the centerboard where it could cause other problems. Sent from my U.S. Cellular® smartphone casioqv@usermail.com wrote:
Has anyone installed a centerboard gasket on there M boat? I know it should have a performance benefit, but I am also interested in the possibility that it would quiet down the centerboard clunk when sleeping.
I am thinking about copying this setup on a SCAMP, which simply involves taping on dacron cloth with 3M double sided tape: http://woodnmetalguy.blogspot.com/2015/01/installing-centerboard-slot-gasket...
Defender sells 3" Hawk Slot strip for $3.99/foot: http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|10918|2259972|2259998|2260009&id=1687657
I was doubtful that simple two-sided tape could hold up below the waterline, but from 3M's advertising claims, it sounds possible:
The 3M 5952 tape is advertised as "strong enough to replace screws, rivets and studs and permanently adhere one material to another" and "create a permanent seal against water, moisture, salt and more."
I have yet to see a 3M product not live up to it's advertised specifications, as long as the instructions are followed.

Raise the board when at anchor or docked. Then it won't clunk and saves wear on it. ~~~_/)~~~ Gary Sent from my iPhone :-)

I agree a tight fitting rubber seal around the entire centerboard would be problematic, but the kind of "gasket" I am talking about is just a flap of dacron cloth that touches the centerboard to reduce turbulence. It doesn't make a tight seal and would be cut with an opening after the aft end of the centerboard to pass larger debris like leaves, etc. Tyler
