Micheal Hess to attend Havasu Pocket Cruisers Event!
Michael Hess, 3rd generation boat builder and designer and Great Nephew to Lyle Hess will be attending the Havasu Pocket Cruisers Get-Together and Poker Run this Feb 11-15. Michael is currently fitting out a Norsea 37 for a customer. When it is complete is will be the largest fiberglass Hess designed boat built to date. He is scheduled to have it completed by July of '10 and is tracking progress of project on his webpage at _http://hessmarine.com/_ (http://hessmarine.com/) I had the opportunity to spend about a half hour on the phone with Michael yesterday. He is very committed to keeping his Uncles boats alive and well. He will build or work on any Lyle Hess design. That's pretty cool if you ask me. All the Montgomery Guys are really getting the royal treatment this year! The first M17 from out of town has already arrived in the marina. Don Rhodes of Flagstaff, AZ decided he had an open weather window and rather than take the chance of getting snowed in and missing the event, he took it! He and his17 JoyJib arrived yesterday. He's got her rigged and floated in a wet slip ready to go! JoyJib wins the "EarlyBird" award for sure! 63 boats registered now. Seminars are scheduled by Stan Sussman of Interlux, Harry Pattison of Elliot/ Pattison Sailmakers, Jerry Montgomery is going to unveil pictures of the progress on his new 16 footer, and Jonathan Olenick will offer up an introductory class on Celestial Navigation! Then we have the "Circumnavigation", "In the Water Boat Show", "Scavenger Hunt", "Ugly Hawaiian Shirt Contest", Evening showing of the movie "Morning Light" and believe it or not....even a surprise or two. Of the 63 boats registered 20 are Montgomerys! Do you need any more reason to attend?? OK, well...how's this......I will give a 100% money back guarantee that you will not get snowed on while you are here and you will not have to scrape ice off your windshield! Subscribe to our Event Message Board at _http://www.quicktopic.com/40/H/LSmQsY3ZHAv_ (http://www.quicktopic.com/40/H/LSmQsY3ZHAv) The local community is really taking notice now and have gotten behind the event. In fact, we are already looking at how to make it even bigger and better for next year. AND...we've already set a goal to exceed 100 boats and crews in 2011 and extending the "convention" to 10 days encompassing 2 weekends. Can it be done? Heck, I was going to be happy with 20-30 crews this year and call it a success and now, we are on track to possibly hit 70. I'm thinking it's do-able and the more of you that come , the more we can offer and the more we'll attract. Come on over...boat or not...you don't want to miss this! Grab a flight into Vegas with your sweetie, spend a day or two, then jump in a rental car and blast on over to Lake Havasu City (about 2.5 hours away). We can get you in on the group hotel rates, you can attend all the events, maybe you can even twist someone's arm to get out on the water. On Sunday evening..(Valentines Day) we'll finish up the event with a nice Sunset Cruise aboard the big Paddle Wheeler "The Dixie Bell" and then head out for a nice dinner. Did you notice its a 4 day weekend? Yep, Monday is a Holiday so you can spend Sunday night and head for home on Monday! Other boats you'll see....Compacs, Potters, Catalinas, MacGregors, Capris, Sanibels, even a Dougdish! Come on in from the cold and join us for some wintertime friendship and fun! You won't be sorry! And we'd be thrilled to see ya! :-) Sean
Hi Sean, Gigi has recovered from her accident to the point that I think we'll be able to make it to the Havasu event this year. Could you please refer me to the site that has the details on how to register, and make reservations at the hotel. Sorry to be asking questions at this late date, but we weren't sure until recently that Gigi would be able to make the trip. Thanks for your help, Bill Day M-15 "Gee Whiz!"
