Hi Robbin, I have the same scupper arrangement in my 1976 M17. Do you have an access port installed to view and grab the hose and fitting? I check mine my giving it a tug and checking the integrity of the hose and fitting. It is still quite solid. The scupper works, but not overly well. If you have 4 adults in the cockpit water will actually come IN the drain. In those cases, I put a rubber plug in it. During non use with the boat slipped, it is important that the drain be free and clear. It will exit water from the cockpit. I have seen a friend's M17 fill with rainwater because the scupper was blocked with leaves. The newer style wet locker with twin scuppers was a great improvement.
