Water spurts out the pendant hole on my boat, when slogging to windward. Does anyone else have this problem? Sometimes water shoots across the cabin, making quite a mess. I've tried plugging the hole, to some success. Has anyone made a slot gasket for the board at the bottom of the keel? Maybe some vinyl strips to keep the water from surging up the slot? Jon: Water coming up the pennant hole is really common but also not. My M15 nor my M17 had much water come up. The M15 has more but seemingly much less that some others reported on theirs. My M17 had almost none (really only had when pulling up the board). The M17 had a cast iron board. The water coming up the hole can sometimes be decreased by partially lifting the board. This is really only recommended for the M15 boards. Why some boats have water issues and others don't had always been a puzzle. Note: for M17 cast iron centerboard boats always lower the board to the stop line and rest board on pin. For the M15s and the M17s with the M15 boards lower to almost the pennant stopper knot and cleat the line. On all boats when not sailing lift up the board! It's possible that the problem could be the amount of drop in the board. We always set the knot for drop of 15" . The knot has been known to migrate, but it can't migrate much or the board will bottom out on the front of the trunk (a no-no!). Of the three 15's I've taken to Mexico for cruising, none had this problem unless I raised the board fast. Hi Dave, Right at the trunk hole. I think my sailing partner may have left it slack . At the buoy, the centerboard does move and make some noise. I usually try to lift the centerboard up 1 inch and winch it off to keep wear and tear off the pin. Thanks for your advice . As usual … Doug

The line on my old M17 is 15 or so years old. Was looking fine when dropped board in early '19 so only old knot cut off and new bowline tied.
Challenge with a grommet is greater chance of jamming in and damage to the trunk.

For the M15-centerboard boats the line is also 5/16", still remove the core but instead tie a 8-knot after running the line to the centerboard.
