I am going on a San Juan cruise with the potter group and am thinking about stopping at Priest Lake and Coeur D'Alene on the way home. It will be around September 13 through the 18th. Can anyone provide addresses for the launch ramps and overnight parking? Thanks Doug Kelch "Seas the Day" M15 G #310
Doug: There is a large public launch ramp right in downtown Coeur d'Alene with a parking area. I don't know about the overnight part. That's at the north end of the lake. I'm at the south end of the lake at Conkling Park, which does have parking and a so-so launch ramp, but is kinda busy on weekends. My dock is about 1/4 mile from that marina, and you'd be welcome to tie up to my dock over night--it would be great to see you. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 #637 sailboat 'Hydeaway 2' On Aug 27, 2010, at 10:18 AM, Doug Kelch wrote:

Doug, For Priest Lake, your best bet will be Indian Creek State Park on the east side of the lake. The main public launch on the west side is under construction and I heard it will be closed after Labor Day. Indian Creek has a good ramp and secure parking, but it can get a little rough if a south wind is blowing up the lake. CornDog is moored in Cavanaugh Bay just a few miles south of there. If you let me know when you're coming, maybe we can get together. At any rate, I can give you some tips on the best anchorages. Larry, My current thoughts ( subject to change) is to drive from Bellingham, WA on the 13th and launch the morning of the 14 th. I will likely stay on the lake for two nights and pull out the morning of the 16th and drive down to Coeur D'Alene. I would launch there late on the 16th and pull out on the 19th. I think both lakes are well worth a couple of days worth of cruising. Hello Doug, For what it's worth, Hills Resort on the west side of Priest Lake in Luby Bay is an option as well. Not better, just an alternative on the west side of the lake. It is a private resort open to all. I launched there this summer and believe I negotiated a price less than $25. I parked my pickup and trailer there for 4 nights. I docked my boat there one night while I was away. It seemed like a safe place to leave stuff. It is powerboat friendly. I received inquisitive looks for having a sailboat. The dock boy, who apparently is obligated to help load your boat back on the trailer, confessed it was his first time helping someone with a sailboat. Pretty funny. There are other 'private resort' launch options too. Grandview Resort (west side) apparently offers launching and trailer/car parking as well - for a fee. If you can get Larry Yake to offer up some insights, take him up on it. He's your guy.
