Cleaning a Honda 2hp Carb and Seafoaming at the mouth!
Jeff,
So, here's the next question... carbeurator cleaner... do i have to take anything part in the carbeurator to do that ...
In a word, yes. One thing to be concerned about with recent engines and carb cleaner is that many carbs are made of plastic now. If you use the old reliable carb cleaner your uncle has always used you may melt your new plastic carb. It is not too difficult to take a carb apart, clen it and put it back together. It does require patience, and an understanding spouse. I have a carb on the kitchen table as we speak (in a plastic bag). A manual for the OB is a big help, which may be available on-line. If it is a new carb the gaskets and seals may go back together without tearing. Otherwise if they stick and tear the carb will not run right and you will have to buy and install new parts. If you have a carb overhaul kit it may tell you the carb manufacturer and model and you may be able to find some information on the internet at the OEM website. Or an internet search may turn up a discussion group where someone describes how to do the job. The first carb I overhauled I used a little too much brute force and stripped out a screw when I reassembled it. For the most part the smaller the engine the more difficult it is to get it off and back on because everything is crammed in such a small space. There is a thread on the TSBB about cleaning a carb on a 2hp Honda. Be sure to read the message about what you have to remove in order to actually remove the carb. http://tinyurl.com/28z2m2 If you feel comfortable with that, have at it. If you have never overhauled a carb before you may want to buy an old one from someplace like E-bay and practice on that one first. steve Steve R. M-15 #119 Lexington, KY
