I am considering selling my 1977 Montgomery 17, "Seranita" (Little Dolphin) Sail #232, berthed here in San Diego in order to take advantage of another opportunity. I realize there is a classified ads section on the website, but I want to make sure the Monty Owners are aware her availability first before I go out to the broader market. Seranita is in Exceptional condition. I have spent the last two years upgrading her and truly she appears as though she is a much newer boat. Have a look at the slide show here: http://s761.photobucket.com/home/Montgomery17SanDiego/recentuploads?view=sli deshow The hull is fabulous and the bottom is painted as she does sit in a wet slip. Sails are good and include a 125% jib and a 100% jib. She is fitted with a CDI roller furler. I have just added an anchor hawes pipe and a Samson post to the foredeck, a new electrical panel, new anchor lighting and deck lighting with new wiring in the mast, a new Kenwood stereo with cockpit speakers and ipod connect, a new Standard Horizon VHF with a connection in the cockpit for the RAM mic, the upholstery is in near new condition, every inch of Seranita has been scrubbed clean and all bilges were cleaned and painted, I upgraded to a mid-cockpit Garhauer mainsheet traveler system, New Hatchboards were fabricated last year and all teak has been varnished with 5 coats of Cetol Gloss after having 3 coats of Cetol Natural Teak. All new running rigging a year and a half ago, the rudder was just removed filled and faired and re-installed, the trailer is also in great condition and the 2004 Suzuki 4hp outboard has just been serviced, I had a very cool cockpit grate made from an extremely hard wood called Ipe and it adds greatly to the amazing Monty "look". I am certain I am leaving some things out, but you can be assured that Seranita is a boat anyone would be proud to own as I have been. I will be asking $9k which one might feel is high for the age, but I feel that one look at Seranita will justify the value. If anyone has interest, just email me off-list at: jbsails@gmail.com Merry Christmas and Blessed Holidays to all!
Joe, Seranita is a great looking vessel and really shows the work put into her. You should have no problem selling her. I have a question regarding the foredeck hawse pipe. Does it lead the chain down in the bow to below the V berth? From the on deck photo it looks like it is a couple of feet aft from the bow. How do you guide it below decks?. The V berth shots don't really show that. Thanks, Bill M17 #622 On Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 12:27 PM, Joe Balla <jbsails@gmail.com> wrote:

Bill, Looks to me like the rode goes from the deck pipe (a hawse pipe is another animal, as Charlie Jones once pointed out to me) to a tub on the v-berth (hidden behind the pillows). Tod Mills M17 #408, 1987 galley model BuscaBrisas

Tod, Right you are!! Just googled both of them. Hawse pipe is like a closed chock through a raised bulwark. Love the words huh? I guess a tub on the v-berth would be good if you only day sailed. I will keep anchoring from the cockpit. Bill On Fri, Dec 18, 2009 at 2:27 PM, <htmills@zoominternet.net> wrote:
