Interior Painting 1988 Vintage Monty's
Friends, Thanks again for everyone's help! I've gotten some great repair ideas from the list! Great information! Question: Does anyone know how to duplicate the splatter paint pattern on the interior cabin top of 88 vintage Monty's? The underside of the deck is a painted a basic white, with a slight blue tint. On top of the base-white is a black "splatter" pattern. The pattern kind of looks like spider webs. Does anyone have any ideas about how you would duplicate this splatter pattern? Thank you, Randy Graves M15 #407 M17 #410
Randy That effect is caused by mixing catalized gelcoat with Webbing compound. We mix it about 50/50. You have to buy a can a Webbing compound from a local supplier of Fiberglass/gelcoat materials. Use a spray gun and practice on a piece of cardboard first. Fair winds Bob (949) 489-8227 RandyG wrote:

Randy, The guy who filled in my M17's windows (so I could install opening ports) imitated the spatter effect on the interior . . . It looks as if he took a paint-brush and just sort of "slung" paint . . . It looks good, but you can tell the difference between his work and the factory's if you study it . . . A pic is pending on one of the host-sites . . . I would guess, just try to match the paint, then practice slinging it at a practice surface 'til you figure out a technique that produces the desired result . . . But perhaps Jerry will weigh in with the trade secret . . . --Craig, M17 #389; M12 #58 ----- Original Message ----- From: RandyG To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats Sent: Thursday, March 03, 2005 11:04 AM Subject: Interior Painting 1988 Vintage Monty's Friends, Thanks again for everyone's help!
