Okay, I'm not much on motor's, and have never had any experience with outboards so, help me out with this question. When I purchase my outboard, do I need to get a standard shaft or the longer shaft for my M15? I'm looking to get the Honda 2 HP motor. Appreciate all your help! ===== Time for a cool change! Sandra, I had a short shaft Evinrude (15yrs old) on my M15 for three years and replaced it with a long shaft Honda 2HP. I never had a problem with the short shaft. The long shaft drags in the water slightly when in the up position. The Honda 4 cycle has a large head on it and won't latch in the up position on the fixed motor mounts. There a couple of ways to fix the problem. The one I used raised the mounting point up about 2 1/2 inches. This is why I went with the long shaft. If you do not have the fixed motor mount I would recommend the short shaft. I never had a cavitation problem with the short shaft and it is lighter and easier to store off the boat. If you have the fixed motor mount you should figure out how you will fix that problem before you decide. I know of a couple of M15 owners who have the short shaft and the fixed motor mount so it must work fine.
