Re: M_Boats: American Classics 'M15' shrouds
a quick note as i'm about to head out after i clean up my workplace in the shop. until you get the rig up on the American Classics 'M15' i'd not worry immediately about the exact setup. what is needed are written and photo details. a few to consider - the pictures i've see it looks as if the tabernacle is in the correct place ... but not sure. this is an immediate tell if the center of effort is in the correct place. how tall is the mast? is the rig a 3/4? masthead? other? (see my prior email that had the link to a PDF file that outlines Jerry's specs.) how long is the boom? the person that i spoke with commented that the boat was sailed ... so the assumption is 'works' as it is. question will be does it work 'right'? turnbuckles are fine ... just overkill for the M15. the shrouds and forestay for the M15 should be snug, but _not_ tight. (this is why turnbuckles are not needed and overkill.) the rig should not be so tight that to put in the forestay pin you need to loosen the shrouds. (again, this is for Jerry's rig ... as noted above the American Classic may be different based on the rig). you almost don't need an adjuster on the forestay as if the wires are the correct length (again, see the PDF i linked before), all being the same length, you can adjust the rig with the shrouds enough for now. look forward to reading updates George. :: Dave Scobie --- On Fri, 3/22/13, George R. Thaks for the information. The shrouds have turnbuckles and only the forestay has no adjustment. It will have to be shortened it use either the recommended stay adjuster or a turnbuckle

if this is the same boat as i saw photos of and discussed last year the shroud chainplates are on the cabin sides ... yes like on an M17. no idea what the standing rig looks like as the boat was photoed without the rig.

Jerry says to use Garhauer stay adjusters, model SA-1, (at the chainplates for the shrouds and for the forestay at the bowplate) on the M15 -

Dave It is a 3/4 rig. I have not measured the mast yet somewhere between 19' & 21' by eyeball. Boom not measured either my guess between 8' & 10' still in cabin. Hope to get it rigged as soon as the weather warms up a bit maybe late next week. Tabernacle looks about right but in a boat this small a little off is a lot of problem that can always be moved if needed.
