Re: M_Boats: safety in swage fittings vs
Hi gang, FWIW: I owned my 29 footer for 26 years. Used in fresh and salt water - 1/3 fresh: 2/3 salt. When I sold the boat it still had all the original standing rigging, and nothing was ever replaced. Being from the aviation industry, I'd check each swaged fitting with a 10X loupe at the start of each season, and never found any cracks or indications of incipient failure. The only failure that I experienced was with a life line. The life line itself deteriorated at the swage fitting and the wires broke. (poor quality stainless?) But, ..............the boat I bought had been built by one of Europe's major yacht yards, and they had used Fokker Aircraft Co. to be their consultant on the fiberglass work. It was a total quality product, and every part of the boat and the rigging reflected that. Connie
