I'm trying to find a Porta-Potti and battery for my M-15. The little hold that was designed to hold a the Potti is only 11 1/2" by 15" on my boat and I'm wondering where I can find a potti that will fit that space. I checked out some other M-15s on line and saw the Thetford 235 model being used, however the dimensions for the 235 and 135 models are larger than that hold acording to the manufacturer. Can someone please advise me... I also need a battery to run my depth finder and eventually some lights. I would like to avoid using a big heavy battery. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Thanks, Lou Aliotta
Makes me wonder if a large battery is ok on an M17?? Joe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lou" <capnlou@ec.rr.com> To: <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, April 18, 2009 7:37 PM Subject: M_Boats: Porta-Potti and Battery...

Two solutions to the porta-potty. 1) I switched to a dry toilet - http://www.thepett.com/index.php?PageLayout=PRODUCTS&headerID2=36&pageID=98 I am very happy with and it frees up some space. It is not as convienient as a ready to use porta potti as it takes 2 minutes to set it up for each use. 2) search the list archives for how to shrink the base. If I recall it as simples as filling the bottom with boiling water and the sitting on it. The bottom will get soft and mold itself to the shape of the hole. You have to use the new Theford to make sure it is not too high and is a close fit to the hole. As to a battery, I have heard of a couple of people using motorcycle batteries and for the limited use you have in mind they work quite well. Just make sure it't a 12 volt battery. Another option for a battery is one of those "jump start" type batteries. They come in a variety of sizes and often with a built-in charger, 12vdc outlet, and a carrying handle. I started with a small one on our M17 and it worked fine powering the depth sounder for several days. I later switched to a larger model to give me extra work-on-the-boat laptop time. In both cases I removed the jumper cables and connect the dept sounder and other equipment directly using the built in 12vdc outlet. Lou, I was faced with the same dilemma re the PP. The dimensions of the molded PP well in my M15 didn't seem to match those of any unit on the market. However, in checking the Thetford 135, I noticed the base of that model is slightly tapered and will fit the space...albeit snugly. But, that's what I want, a PP that is not easily dislodged.
