Hi Bones.... I do the same thing...when installing the centerboard trunk, we slip a waxed up fake pin across the span; from outside the hull thru the centerboard trunk (both sides) thru the other side of the hull. Then we wrap about a 3 inch solid core around that pin and onto the hull and centerboard trunk. No leaks. Ever. Then we layer in the pure lead mixed with resin; top that off with several layers of mat and woven roving over the top. Again, no way for a leak thru that second bottom. Rock solid. I had my swing keel serviced by Hooper's in Afton, Mn. I had a slow leak into the bilge of my M23, caused by either the pivot or stop pin, we never determined which. David, their Kiwi fiberglass guru, constructed a "sleeve" of epoxy and graphite using the pins as a reference. He glassed them into the hull and reused the pins. Thus, the pins have a bearing surface, not the fiberglass hull, that they reside into. David stated you could fire a .45 into the sleeve and not hurt them....(Hmmm). End result, no leaks. This was performed about 4 years ago.
