One of my bright ideas that I never got around to doing was to establish a Wi-Fi network at Marinas. The locations would be published on places like this. Pull in, fire up the laptop and you have high speed Internet. But I could never figure out how to make a buck off it. If you did subscriptions, the network would have to be password protected, but subscribers could give that out to anybody. If it was an open network, well.....it's just open. Like they do at coffee houses. Any marina could do that....and I'd think the smarts ones already have. It would attract customers like light bulbs attract bugs. The weather in South Texas for the puddle duck race was ..well..intresting Wayne and some friends were putting in at Cove Harbor near Rockport, Texas and sailing up the coast to Palacios, Texas roughly about75-100 miles up the coast towards Houston. The winds started out at 20-25 and at some times gusting to 30, Friday the winds were a beautiful 15-20 and today for the actual race to magnolia beach at 9:30am 10-15. I drove the distance from Houston to Rockport yesterday along 35 if you look at a map this is all coastal, man it was beautiful, little coastal towns population averages 3-5 thousand people, and they have parks on their waterfronts and old plantation houses. I have never done this sail but, I definitely plan on it now, I was sitting here wishing I was in the flotilla with Wayne, cant wait to hear his stories. Hi , How doable is it to install a bow pulpit on an older M15 that never had one? What disadvantages are there to not having one on the boat? Fran _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. Check out the new MSN Search! http://search.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200636ave/direct/01/
Fran, That would be one of the more straightforward projects, I would think. I would position the pulpit on deck ( a helper to keep it in place might be a good thing ), sight it from different angles to make sure it looked like it was on straight, mark the holes on the deck, drill them, do the seal-with-epoxy routine, and then bolt it down with caulk, using at least fender washers if not a bona fide backing plate. What would really be great is if the pulpit came with loose backing plates (extra flanges like on the bottom of the pulpit). After considering removing the pulpit on BuscaBrisas, I started noticing how often it really was used. Here are a few ways I find myself using it: 1. Mast support while trailering. 2. Place to hook a halyard when it isn't actually hooked to the head of a sail. 3. Handle for moving the boat around at the dock. Thanks for the feedback, Tod, I appreciate it. I suppose in the making of these boats, the pulpit is put on after the hull and deck are put together. You bring up some good points to be careful about when attaching a pulpit. I think I could always ask Bob Eeg about any suggestions he might have. I didn't get your photos you mentioned, tho. Was there an attachment or url? Thanks again, Fran

Hello all, Saw a 1981 M 15 #139 at The Sailing Life, 260 N. Tomahawk Island Dr., in Portland, Oregon on Monday, August 21. It's white with blue stripe, on decent trailor. I did not go in and ask about it. Here's the web page: http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/pl_boat_detail.jsp?&units=Feet&checke... or www.yachtworld.com/thesailinglife and go to pre-owned boats Good luck, Fran Former M15 former M8 _________________________________________________________________ Search from any web page with powerful protection. Fran, I'll add a couple more things: One thing that could make the project a wee bit more difficult is if the pulpit-maker wasn't careful in using fixtures to ensure that the legs of the pulpit end up where they are supposed to be. On one pulpit I removed, a leg had been forced into position because when it had been welded the leg wasn't properly aligned. When locating the pulpit, watch that the bolts will come into the cabin in a good place, i.e., not on the EDGE of the deck coring or, worse yet, into the edge of the hull. Or that the front of the pulpit isn't at risk of smacking anything on the trailer. Those are the sorts of mistakes I'm prone to making. Here's a picture of a 15, Storm Petrel, and BuscaBrisas in the background. In both cases the bow pulpit is ever-so-slightly forward of the projection of the stem.
