Hello from Maine, I've recently acquired Montgomery 17 (1985 Hull no. 397), photo attached. The boat needs a new rig. Can someone in the group share specs on the mast and rig for this boat? I welcome any and all thoughts and suggestions on this hull and rig from experienced Montgomery 17 owners. The boat is in good share overall, but it hasn't seen water in the last 20 years. Thank you, Jim
Jim: Contact Dwyer Alum Mast Co for the new mast and boom. https://dwyermast.com/ For details on the rest of the rig great information in the MSOG Facebook group. Here is a link to a PDF that has many of the M17 rig specifics - https://www.facebook.com/groups/330782353662726/permalink/3288979874509611 For more Q&A I recommend using the FB group and easy to discuss and share pictures. Consider a tall rig unless you sail in ‘hurricane gulch’ type waters. The tall rig is 21” taller. Very little if any downside in heavy air at all, and substantial benefits in all conditions up to 17-20 knots windspeed, above that 1st reef, full headsail (@ 135% you are good to mid twenties) Ask Mr Montgomery for his opinion. Good luck, have fUn, go sail! On Mon, Aug 12, 2024 at 7:27 PM <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:

Dave, I submitted a quote request at Dwyer, and I am waiting on a response from them. I'll be sure to check out the Facebook group and the link to the .pdf #397 has been on the hard for 20+ years, and I'm determined to get her back in the water this year or next. Thank you Jim On Mon, Aug 12, 2024, 8:17 PM <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:

It's there, not sure why you couldn't get it. I will send direct as attachment, don't think this list allows attachments that big. cheers, john On 8/12/24 20:41, Jim M wrote:

Dave/John, I was able to access the .pdf Dave mentioned. I’m not sure if Dave rest/reposted or if there is some other issue with your access? It’s technically, it could be anything. Skip Campion

Welcome aboard. I'm in Massachusetts and have been sailing M17 #215 for about 8 years now. Not too many of us Monty owners here in New England. It probably would be a few days before I could get to it, but I can provide measurements if you still need them. I’m in western MA and have an M17 we restored 6 or 7 years ago. I bought a new mast from Dwyer and fit it along with new standing rigging. -Gerry

For rigging parts & pieces and making up stays & shrouds to order I have had good service and good prices from Rigging Only: https://www.riggingandhardware.com/ Shop is in Fairhaven, MA but they ship everywhere of course. Knowledgeable phone support, they were able to answer all my questions and explain various options to me before I ordered stuff. Also, if it were me, starting from scratch with a whole new rig, I would consider soft standing rigging instead of 'traditional' steel wire. cheers, John On 8/13/24 09:32, Gerry Lempicki via montgomery_boats wrote:
