Come on down, up, over..whatever to Lake Havasu City, AZ Feb 23/24 and join us for a two day winter sailing event. No, it's not a race! Believe it or not...it's an almost 20 mile two-day cruise down Lake Havasu participating in a Poker Run and Scavenger hunt. Open to any and all trailerable sailboats. Not put on by any specific club, just a bunch of us getting together to have fun and do some winter sailing. Temps should be somewhere between the mid 60's and low 80's. Wind? Who knows. Could blow like heck, could be a drifter. Marina and motel available for the overnight portion about halfway down the lake for the more pampered types! and yes....I'm getting a motel room to keep Mrs Mulligan warm and happy! Should be a lot of fun. Check out the details by going to my webpage _www.havasumontgomerys.piczo.com_ (http://www.havasumontgomerys.piczo.com) and then scrolling to the bottom of the page to find the link to the "Havasu Pocket Cruiser Get-together/Poker Run. Plenty of time to make plans but if you are going to attend and want slips of hotel/motel rooms, now would be the time to get them.
Hope some of you guys/gals will consider joining us. Love to have a good Montgomery showing. I'm in, and Gary O. is in and I think Dorothy and Eldor of the M17 Motu-iti , and Fu-shing Pan from Socal may be in as well.....that's a good start! How 'bout those Utah M boaters!!??

Has anyone installed a bimini on their 15? If so what size and where did you purchase? Does it impede sailing? David

Hmmmm... just checked it out... a drive under 10 hours... it could happen. Let me talk with my better half... we might very well make the trip and if we do, she will surely require the motel room also.

Has anyone been sailing in SF bay since the oil spill?
As you probably know, a week ago a container ship "touched" the fender protecting one of the towers on the bay bridge and tore a gash in the hull that spilled 58,000 gallons of fuel into the bay. The tide flushed the spill into the north bay and out into the ocean, fouling beaches and killing sea life. A criminal investigation is ongoing.
I have not been in a position to personally see if there are any sailboats on the bay, but from what I can tell from web cams, there is not much activity.
I would think that if you encountered a blob of oil tar it would stick to the gel coat and, at the minimum, stain it, or even dissolve it. And cleanup would be difficult and a bit hazardous. Pictures of the volunteers on the beaches show them in hazmat bunny suits and gloves, but cleaning a boat on a trailer should not present too great a problem. The oil got into some marinas and some of the boats there were fouled, so they will be facing cleanup problems. I hear that ships now burn crude oil, so a spill has lots of nasty stuff in it.
This may sound trivial in light of the magnitude of the problem, but I guess my questions are: does anyone have experience with the problem of oil spills and its effects on fiberglass boats, and have any of the locals been on the bay since the spill and how long are you planning to wait before going out?
Thanks, Bob M15 #208 Castro Valley, CA

I have a M 15 and pull it with a 2006 Subaru Forester. I haven't pulled it over any steep mountain passes yet. Have any of you had any experience pulling a M 15 with a Subaru? I hope I do not need to put brakes on the trailer.
Thank you, Bert Felton M 15, #365,Zephyr

I pull mine with a 2000 Forester, it slows a bit over hills but not below 50. I have a manual transmission, though, so can just downshift for hills. No brakes needed if you haven't loaded the trailer up with more than the boat.
