I need to open the sail track on my mast. It need to be wide enough to accept the goose neck fitting and no opening other than the sail track is there right now. Any suggestions on how to do this? Brute force - heavy hammer and a splitting wedge? Thanks Doug Kelch
Doug, A while ago I too was looking for a way to bend tempered aluminum without cracking it. Back then I came across the following article http://www.eskimo.com/~smallnet/JoeArticles/AlLandGear.html which advocated heating to 500 deg. and then rapidly quenching, just the opposite of how steel is annealed. I never got a chance to try it out as I sold the Safari motor home. There was a minor bent piece over one of the wheel wells. Therefore I'd caution trying the process on a scrap of junk aluminum first before risking your mast. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fair tide and a steady breeze, Nick
Take a dremmal tool, put on a cutting blade and use patience in cutting enough of the walls (symmetrically) to get the goose neck slide into the slot. Sand it smooth, make it neat.
