Hummingbird makes some fairly cheap fish finders...some may be portable, IIRC. Do you want a depth finder for spot checks, or continuous use?? I've seen a handheld unit at W-Marine about the size of a C-cell flashlight that I tested a few years ago. Can't remember the name, but it did seem to work. Harvey/Ga M-17 Stargazer #294
