doug: Welcome to the list of happy M-15 owners. As a new member myself, I know that there are always questions. No one wants to re-invent the wheel. Feel free to ask any of us when you have a question or you can search the MSOG site by specific items (say anchors). I love my M-15, It's sea-worthy, roomy and easy to trail and launch. I can set up in 15 or 20 minutes. There are several tricks most of us use: We use the jib halyard to hold the mast up while we go forward to connect the fore stay. Most of us keep the main rolled around the boom to simplify the set-up. Let us know what you named her. Everything from commercial collisions (that you never hear about in the newspapers); big ship scrapping problems; to canoeing along the German Baltic coast - or, by the same author, around the Newfoundland peninsula; to Robb White's rambling, amusing, informative writings - as well as a Bolger commentary on some design of his: the why's, how's, and often times how the design really worked .. .........or in the latest issue, about a man in New Zealand with a 6 foot long, four masted, radio controlled schooner model; and articles on nature observed from a boat - dragon flies, otters, seals. I gave up on SAIL long ago. How often do you want to read that the pointy end is called the bow, the blunt end is called the stern; and sheets are used to control sails - not put on a bed (berth)? ..........or that the hot shot racers are loosing masts in a bit of a chop but haven't a clue as to why; ..........or that their expensive "toys" are ready for the scrap heap after a year of racing...........? CRUISING still in interesting to read, but at my age, I've sort of given up the idea of sailing to Samoa. The M15 might make the journey, but I can't quite convince myself that it is something that needs to be done, when Lake Champlain or similar bodies of water let me play out my adventurous fantasies - rail down, headed for distant shores - but at night I can come back to the luxury of a B&B and a good diner in a restaurant. My Admirable finds this much more to her liking that being braced in the galley in a Buzzard's Bay wind against the tide situation, cooking lunch for four as the boat crashes to windward. Been there - done that! I tried to get new ones before departing Florida for Connecticut, but the shop didn't have any of the right size, and, as they told me, all trailer tires in Florida have sidewall cracks.............. So we headed back to Connecticut. However, my first job, when I got home with the M15, was to get new rims and new tires.
From the discussions on the M-List, the answer was go with radials - for the reasons you mentioned.
I got Goodyear tires, with wheels properly balanced, and have been totally happy with the results. I have since related this to the severe vibration caused by the bias ply tires I had on my trailer. Since I moved to radials, the ride has been completely smoothed out. When I first noticed the vibration, I thought the wheels on the truck were out of alignment and took it in and had them balanced. First time I towed the trailer after that, I thought I had a flat tire it was so bad. Once I changed out the tires on the trailer, it was like magic. If I ever buy another trailer, it will have radials from the beginning. Time for a cool change! And small boats put you closer to the water, closer to the things that make the essence of sailing a beautiful experience.

I had the 12" radials (as mentioned in my previous post) mounted and balanced without any problems. There are, believe it or not, still cars out there running 12" wheels/tires, and these still have to be balanced. Try a specialty tire shop rather than 'big box' stores. Gary, There may not be trailer-specific tires available for 12" rims, but there are several 12" car radials available. I switched over to 12" Goodyear Tiempo car radials about 7 years and many thousands of miles ago on my otherwise stock TrailRite trailer.
The ride/cushioning effect of the radials was a dramatic improvement. While it is true that radials designed for trailer use tend to have reinforced sidewalls, the M15 is light enough that this should not be a concern.
Others on the list have made the switch as well, and to my knowledge, none have regretted it.
