Bill, I don't know the exact measurements, but most of the trunk is underwater. I've heard of guys using something like a hacksaw blade to slide up past the centerboard to check and clean the trunk. I too have often wondered if the sticking board problem on some boats is due to marine growth and not a swelling of the cast iron ballast in the trunk.
