Any of you skipper ever careen your M15 to refresh the bottom paint or wax the top sides? In the old days we used to do that with out islander 32 in Cat harbor Catalina. Now They want $1000 to haul out at the OS boat yard. No thank you Capt Jim Get Outlook for iOS<https://aka.ms/o0ukef>
most places, Puget Sound being one, careening itself can run afoul of local laws and if one begins doing bottom work in clear violation of environmental laws. :: Dave Scobie :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: Montgomery 6'8" #650 :: Truck camper - https://truckpopupcamper.wordpress.com/ :: Ramblings - https://scoobsramblings.wordpress.com/ :: former owner SV SWALLOW - https://sailboatswallow.wordpress.com <https://sailboatsallow.wordpress.com/> :: former M17 owner #375 SWEET PEA - https://m17-375.com/ <http://www.m17-375.webs.com/> :: former M15 owner #288 - https://m15namedscred.wordpress.com/ <http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred> On Tue, Aug 27, 2024 at 8:25 AM Jim Sadler <jimsadler@jascopacific.com> wrote:

The only other issues are: * making sure wind don't come up and cause wave damage or downfilling to the boat when the tide returns. * gravel damage to hullsides * items getting pushed into the centerboard slot and jamming the board. :: Dave Scobie :: Baba 30 #233 DEJA VU :: Montgomery 6'8" #650 :: Truck camper - https://truckpopupcamper.wordpress.com/ :: Ramblings - https://scoobsramblings.wordpress.com/ :: former owner SV SWALLOW - https://sailboatswallow.wordpress.com <https://sailboatsallow.wordpress.com/> :: former M17 owner #375 SWEET PEA - https://m17-375.com/ <http://www.m17-375.webs.com/> :: former M15 owner #288 - https://m15namedscred.wordpress.com/ <http://www.freewebs.com/m15-name-scred> On Tue, Aug 27, 2024 at 8:45 AM Jim Sadler <jimsadler@jascopacific.com> wrote:

It could be done, but I think it would be pretty hard to find a modern product that can be applied properly during the time window. There are ways (e.g. using the trailer jack, cinder blocks, and wood) to do it safely on a trailer, while still getting the bottom. While I did this once in the photo you posted, it is a little risky, and I never did it again. Thanks skipper I used to do this with my islander 32 in the 70's I am thinking about this in Baja where I will have no trailer and not sure about the authorities? I have, but not for the reasons below. Occasionally, the centerboard wouldn’t drop, so I would beach side to shore, then use my Leatherman to free it. Sent from my iPad
