I have a tricolor AND an anchor light at my masthead. The tricolor is valid for sailing craft only whne under sail. The white portion is a stern light and doesn't qualify as an anchor light since it isn't all around white. Also, the Coast Guard allows craft under 16 ft to use a lantern or some other white light as an anchor light ... well they did when I took my Captains test a few years ago. One note, when we were in the North Channel in June, the local boats used a very small light as an anchor light, They certainly wouldn't meet the 2 mile requirement. I hung my anchor lantern from the back stay most nights. John "Miss T" M7 # 372 ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
