Doug, Well said. When I made the decision to downsize from my NorSea, there were three driving forces for selecting a M17: - It was a Lyle Hess design; - Bob Eeg; - and, this group of knowledgeable and helpful folks. Hi everyone, I have rarely posted or replied on this listserve. However, I feel akin to you all because of our affection for our M-boats and the 'small is bigger' concept. So, I will chip in my two-bits for what it is worth:
- I would not have purchased my boat if the MSOG site did not exist; a central repository of info on line is very important. Too bad that it is somewhat dormant - maybe we should all chip in to an annual pot, and pay someone keen, like Sean or Dave, to be the administrator... Imagine what the site would be like now, if it had been maintained and managed! - I am always amazed and impressed that we have regular contributions from Jerry and Bob, and seriously comforted by the knowledge/expertise available; I doubt that they have time to review/post to more than one forum as often as they do now. - History and continuity seem increasingly taken for granted and devalued in favour of 'newer and better'; when it is blowing 30, I am thankful for Hess' and Montgomery's thought, integrity and effort, not my gps or chartplotter or... - Too many forums will likely lead to confusion, competition, ultimately exclusions, and the specter of 'politics' alluded to by Dave; one forum, one voice, say it here or don't say it at all... - Just because there is a lull in the exchange rate on this listserve does not invalidate it; often the email are flying back and forth without much of value being said or accomplished either which is the yin and yang of discourse; if the phone doesn't ring or if it has some static, does it need to be disconnected? - I enjoy this listserve, even though I seldom post, and many have commented that it was years before they contributed; this is a tribute to having a solid and reliable venue, so lets support/improve what we have rather than fly off in all directions...
Sorry to inhale so much of everyone's time, I can get carried away with my rants...

HI DAVE,
THANKYOU FOR THE CONCISE INVENTORY OF MONTY SITES.
I VERY MUCH AGREE WITH ABOUT FACEBOOK.
I JOINED THE MONTGOMERYOWNERS.COM SITE SOME TIME BACK AND THEN FORGOT TO RETURN TO IT. I AM CURIOUS ABOUT THE "POLITICS" YOU REFER TO.
I VISITED MSOG FOR YEARS BEFORE I GOT MY PRESENT M17.
MIGHT IT BE POSSIBLE TO EXPAND THE ROLE OF THE http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Montyowners/ SITE? IT HAS POTENTIAL DO TO SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST BE A REGISTRY.
IT SEEMS TO ME THAT WE HAVE AN AWKWARD WORK AROUND USING THE MAILMAN XMISSION AND SOME FOLKS POSTING PHOTOS TO TRAILERSAILOR OR FACEBOOK OR OTHER SITES. I HAVE BEEN SENDING MY PHOTOS DIRECTLY TO SOME OF THE M17 OWNERS WHO SEEMED TO HAVE AN INTEREST IN STRETCHING THE Q-BERTH FOR EXAMPLE. THAT MEANS THAT OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED GET LEFT OUT. A CENTRAL REPOSITORY WOULD BE USEFUL.
SEAN MULLIGAN DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT EXPANDING THE MISSION OF YOUR SITE?

at this time there are the following 'general' montgomery sailboat sites -
http://www.msogphotosite.com http://www.msog.org
neither of the above are 'actively updated'. msog.org 'hosts' the listproc (MAILMAN XMISSION)
then there is -
http://www.montgomeryowners.com
IMO, this site has been 'panned' by the montgomery 'community'. even though it has a forum, blogs, photo hosting abilities, etc... it is the most 'advanced' site in it's abilities in the current www environment.
there is a yahoo site -
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Montyowners/
the yahoo groups site hosts only the boat owners registry. the yahoogroups 'registry was created by sean mulligan (ie, M23 'dauntless') after a general 'polling' on the msog.org/MAILMAN-XMISSION list about the interest in another 'site' being created.
there is also the trailorsailor site -
http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/montgomery/index.cgi
a BBS format.
and now there is the facebook offereing. i haven't joined yet ... but i do use facebook in a 'limited' way. overall i don't find the facebook service all that 'central' to my communication needs (a bit to genNEXT, 'commercia', and 'spam-like' with all the top and side ad banners).
when last 'polled' the majority 'preference' was for the continued use of the listproc. if you look at 'use numbers' number two is the trailersailor BBS. the msogphotosite and msog sites are 'historical' as neither is actively updated. the montgomeryowners site hasn't had a new post in many many months (many 'political' reasons for this).
