Randy, I should've been more clear, the pics were of Miss T, John E.'s boat. Busca (my 17) doesn't have a backstay adjuster. Sorry for the confusion. BTW, when I got new standing rigging from Jerry I ordered it with the split up higher than original so that I could flip the tiller up and through it even with the rudder in the fully raised position. Made it easier to install the assembled rudder/tiller with the rudder on the trailer (sliding the rudder pin down through all the gudgeons requires the tiller to be flipped all the way up if it is on the rudder). Tod, It looks like your bridles connect to your backstay much higher than on our 17s. Our bridle stays are 59-1/2" and connect to the backstay roughly level at the same height as the boom. Did you need to modify your backstay and bridles in order to accommodate the backstay tensioner? Anyone have a backstay adjuster on their 17 that they are happy with? Anyone using the kind that pinches the two short stays together to create tension? We originally were looking for an adjustable turnbuckle; some way to easily tension the stays without tools when raising and lowering the mast. In talking with Jerry he suggested we go with a backstay adjuster rather than an adjustable turnbuckle. Any help is appreciated!
